A visionary musician and cultural trailblazer whose influence spanned continents and decades. Born in Liverpool in to a Jamaican father and Irish mother, Stretton rose from modest beginnings to become one of the earliest international Black music ambassadors. As a masterful entertainer, composer, and bandleader, he brought the sounds of ragtime, jazz, and early Black popular music from Britain to the world stage.
In a time of racial barriers and limited opportunities, Stretton defied convention, touring Europe, Africa, and Latin America, where he ultimately found a second home in Argentina. There, he helped shape the early jazz scene and left a lasting legacy in South American music. His work not only entertained but connected cultures through rhythm, resilience, and soul.
