A freeborn son of a slave and Native Amerindian who took inspiration while on a commercial trip to Haiti, where he witnessed the early stages of the Haitian slave rebellion. Chirino would go on to lead the 1795 slave revolt in Coro, Venezuela with José Caridad González.
