A journalist and activist who founded Britain’s first mainstream newspaper, the West Indian Gazette which was also known in print on the newspaper’s banner as the West Indian Gazette And Afro-Asian Caribbean News. Jones is often described as “the mother of the Notting Hill Carnival”, an annual event held in west London since the 1960s.
