Even as a young boy Eddie Murphy always knew how to make people laugh. At the age of 15, he was already an MC in an amateur talent show. He soon emerged as the biggest and most controversial comedy star. He has no college degree even though he enrolled at Nassau Community College after high school where he worked part-time as a shoe store clerk. Eddie Murphy continued to perform in local clubs while he worked on becoming a better actor. He soon expanded his movie roles from family-friends’ films to more dramatic roles. All through his acting career, he has made audiences laugh from small screens to big movie hits.
The producers of the 1980’s NBC’s popular late night comedy show, Saturday Night Live, were looking to hire a black actor for their new season. Eddie Murphy auditioned for the role six times and he finally earned a part as an extra. He first earned his national attention as a cast member on Saturday Night Live(SNL). One fateful night when the producers needed someone to perform for the remaining four minutes, he was called up to finish the show by doing his standup performance called “masterful” by Rolling Stone. Eddie Murphy was then called back to feature the next season and he was credited with helping to revitalise the show.
At the age of 21, Murphy landed the first major role that would later get him a Grammy nomination for a live album of fresh stand-up material called Eddie Murphy: Comedian. His first major motion picture role was “48 hours” where he acted alongside Nick Nolte.
Following his success in his previous role, he starred in “Trading Places” alongside fellow SNL alumnus Dan Aykroyd. Murphy was later signed by Paramount Pictures for a $25 million contract for six pictures.
His next film earned him a Golden Globe nomination. The actor starred in the 1984 No. 9 hit of all time, “Beverly Hills Cop”. During this period, he had a growing number of Fans. He took this opportunity to release his first single off the album, “Party All the Time,” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Eddie Murphy got the biggest hit of his career when he acted the Romantic Comedy “Coming to America”. In this movie, he was able to display how versatile he is by playing multiple characters in the film and the audience liked it. Other movies where he featured in are Boomerang, The Nutty Professor, Doctor Doolittle, Shrek, Dreamgirls, Norbit, and several other hit Office Box movies.
Award-winning actor, Eddy Murphy has always wanted to be a comedian from childhood. He spent a lot of years learning how to impersonate characters such as Bugs Bunny, Bullwinkle, and Sylvester the Cat. You can hardly hear him talk in his own voice. Eddie Murphy was voted as the most popular boy in his graduating class in high school and his passion for comedy was the reason why he built a successful career at an early age.
